Introduction to Airside Aerodrome Safety & Operations

To ensure competent staff are employed airside, an aerodrome operator has an obligation to implement and establish a training programme for personnel involved in the operation, maintenance and management of the aerodrome. The UK CAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations stipulate the training requirements required, indeed, ICAO Doc. 9981 PANS Aerodromes states: “The activities conducted by an aerodrome operator require the competence and appropriate training of personnel in order to carry out their assigned tasks.”.
